Periodic clearing out your liver is one of the most powerful things you can do to improve your health, vitality and lifespan. The liver, is your own recycling and refuse plant. Any toxins from food or drink gets sorted out there, as well as the bodies metabolic waste. It’s also where hormones are produced and recycled, and blood sugar regulated. So it’s a pretty busy place!
Stress and toxic food put the liver under a lot of pressure. Sometimes the liver can’t process the excess toxins fast enough, so it just stores them out of the way, bit like sweeping things under the rug! Eventually it gets a bit clogged up and works less effectively and needs a clear out.
It’s like your vacuum cleaner, every now and then you need to clean out the filter so it works better. Other wise it cleans less and less effectively and eventually the strain can damage the motor!
Often feeling old or low in vitality is not a natural consequence of aging but just a sign the organs need a good spring clean.

Stress and anger makes the body more toxic and puts more stain on the liver. A default grumpy attitude to life is also sign of an unhappy liver, not an inevitable part of aging. After a liver detox, being grumpy is optional!
Preparing for the cleanse
It’s really important to prepare properly for the liver cleanse, unlike other organs, the liver releases its toxins into the body. That’s why it’s essential to do the other cleanses first, to clear out the colon and other detox organs.
Cleaning the liver is like opening Pandora’s Box because you don’t really know whats in there! It’s important to allow your own detox mechanisms to work, before doing any cleansing.
- First establish a vegetarian style diet and healthy lifestyle routine. Eat mainly unprocessed foods with lots of vegetables.
- Eat and prepare food in a relaxed and awareful way
- Reduce stress by doing things like yoga , relaxation and walks in nature.
- Try to find positive ways to resolve conflict, try techniques like non violent communication.

- Do not do this cleanse if you are, or trying to become pregnant.
How the Liver Cleanse Works
The active ingredient is oil, which stimulates bile secretion, and flushes out the gall bladder. The oil also causes the liver to contract slightly, which squeezes out toxins. The garlic makes the effect stronger as it softens the cholesterol and other deposits. It’s also anti bacterial, so kills off any bugs coming out of the liver. The ginger is a digestive aid, which makes the smoothie more digestible.I repeat the cleanse 3 to 5 times over a week or ten days. I make the smoothie quite weak to begin with, and then stronger as I go on. I start with mainly apple juice and small amount of garlic, ginger and olive oil, then increase it slowly.
I do the liver cleanse 2 to 4 times a year. Late spring / early summer and autumn are the best times.
Making the Liver Smoothie
The smoothie is a blend of garlic, ginger, apple juice and olive oil.
Start early in the morning on an empty stomach
Liver Cleanse Smoothie
1 Small Clove Garlic
1 Clove Size piece of Raw Ginger
100ml Apple Juice
15ml Virgin Olive Oil
1. Chop the garlic and ginger finely.
2. Add all ingredients to a liquidizer or smoothie maker, till smooth.
After 10 minutes I drink some detox tea which I get from Lifeherb . This tea contains ginger, fennel, cardamon, cinnamon and cloves which helps digest the smoothie. It also has uva ursi, dandelion root and juniper which are diuretic kidney tonics which help eliminate the toxins.
