Banish Insomnia with Imaginary Dru Yoga

This morning I woke up at 5am! I knew that a bit of Dru Yoga will quickly get me back to sleep so I could happily snooze on till breakfast time. But it’s too cold and dark, and my bed cosy and warm! So I try visualising from under the comfort of my duvet.

It's 5am I need Dru Yoga to get back to sleep!

I start imagining I am doing dru yoga

As it’s nearly full moon I decide to practice, in my mind, the moon sequence ‘chandra namaskar’. So I imagine myself in a kneeling position and visualise the moon. Then breath out as I imagine my arms pushing forward, inhaling as the arms separate out, and inhaling again as the hands turn upwards. Finally inhaling as my hands meet above my head.

I breathe in as I visualise the movement

So in my imaginary yoga, only the breathing is real, it’s not too much effort as you have to breathe anyway. So I go through the movement in my mind and already I feel like dropping off again.

I finish off with an imaginary shoulderstand

To finish off I am going to do an imaginary shoulder stand. The great thing about imaginary yoga is you don’t need to warm up, there are no contra indications to worry about!

So I feel myself going into the posture, imagine my feet pointing upwards, and feel the sensation of the inverted posture. Then slowly curling out of the posture.

The next thing I know the alarm is going off it’s two hours later, was it just a dream? Did I imagine it, or actually do the yoga for real.

  1. That’s spooky! I tried something very similar recently when I couldn’t settle down to sleep, but visualised the earth sequence instead of the moon. The calming breath helped me to drop off. Sue xx
